Shema Before Sleep at Night

aw He who lives in the shelter of the Most High dwells in the shadow of the Ps. 91 Almighty. I say of God, my Refuge and Stronghold, my LORD in whom I trust, that He will save you from the fowler’s snare and the deadly pestilence. With His pinions He will cover you, and beneath His wings you will find shelter; His faith- fulness is an encircling shield. You need not fear terror by night, nor the arrow that flies by day; not the pestilence that stalks in darkness, nor the plague that ravages i at noon. A thousand may fall at your side, ten thousand at your right hand, but it will not come near you. You will only look with your eyes and see the punishment of the wicked. Because you said, “The LORD is my Refuge,” taking the Most High as your shelter, no harm will befall you, no plague come near your tent, for He will command His angels about you, to guard you in all your ways. They will lift you in their hands, lest your foot stumble on a stone. You will tread on lions and vipers; you will trample on young lions and snakes. [God says:] “Because he loves Me, I will rescue him; I will protect him, because he acknowledges My name. When he calls on Me, I will answer him; I will be with him in distress, I will deliver him and bring him honor. With long life I will satisfy him and show him My salvation. With long life I will satisfy him and show him My salvation. mr LORD, how numerous are my enemies, how many rise against me. Many Ps. 3 say of me: “There is no help for him in God,” Selah. But You, LORD, are a shield around me. You are my glory; You raise my head high. I cry aloud to the LORD, and He answers me from His holy mountain, Selah. I lie down to sleep and I wake again, for the LORD supports me. I will not fear the myriad forces ranged against me on all sides. Arise, LORD, save me, O my God; strike all my enemies across the cheek; break the teeth of the wicked. From the LORD comes deliver- ance; may Your blessing rest upon Your people, Selah. 33°37 Help us lie down, O LORD our God, in peace, and rise up, O our King, to good lives and to peace. Spread over us Your canopy of peace. Direct us with Your good counsel, and save us speedily for the sake of Your name. Shield us and remove from us every enemy, plague, sword, famine and sorrow. Remove the adversary from before and behind us. Shelter us in the shadow of Your wings, for You, God, are our Guardian and Deliverer; You, God, are a gracious and compassionate King. Guard our going out and our coming in, for life and peace, from now and for ever. "74 Blessed is the LORD by day, blessed is the LORD by night. Blessed is the LORD when we lie down; blessed is the Lord when we rise. For in Your hand are the souls of the living and the dead, [as it is written:] “In His hand is every Job 12 living soul, and the breath of all mankind.” Into Your hand I entrust my spirit: Ps. 31 You redeemed me, LORD, God of truth. Our God in heaven, bring unity to Your name, establish Your kingdom constantly and reign over us for ever and all time.
