A song of ascents. Of David. Had the LORD not been on our side - let Israel say it - had the LORD not been on our side when men rose up against us, they would have swallowed us alive when their anger raged against us. The waters would have engulfed us; the torrent would have swept over us; over us would have swept the raging waters. Blessed be the LORD who did not leave us as a prey for their teeth. We escaped like a bird from the fowler's trap; the trap broke and we escaped. Our help is in the name of the LORD, Maker of heaven and earth.

THE DAILY PSALM

One of the following psalms is said on the appropriate day of the week as indicated. After the psalm, “Save us” and Mourner’s Kaddish are said. After the Daily Psalm on Hanukka, add Psalm 30, followed by Mourner’s Kaddish. From the second day of Rosh Hodesh Elul through Shemini Atzeret, add Psalm 27. In a house of mourning the service concludes elsewhere.
Sunday: Today is the first day of the week, on which the Levites used to say this psalm in the Temple:

A psalm of David. The earth is the LORD's and all it contains, the world and all who live in it. For He founded it on the seas and established it on the streams. Who may climb the mountain of the LORD? Who may stand in His holy place? He who has clean hands and a pure heart, who has not taken My name in vain or sworn deceitfully. He shall receive a blessing from the LORD, and just reward from the God of his salvation. This is a generation of those who seek Him, the descendants of Jacob who seek Your presence, Selah! Lift up your heads, O gates; be uplifted, eternal doors, so that the King of glory may enter. Who is the King of glory? It is the LORD, strong and mighty, the LORD mighty in battle. Lift up your heads, O gates; lift them up, eternal doors, that the King of glory may enter. Who is He, the King of glory? The LORD of hosts, He is the King of glory, Selah!
