should say the following prayers, because of their public nature, following local Israeli custom: a Birkat Kohanim is said daily in Shaharit and Musaf, in Minha on fast days and Neila on Yom Kippur, although not in certain communities in northern Israel. b_ Birkat HaHodesh concludes with the extended version of amp (page 593). c Inthe Rabbis’ Kaddish, the word xw»p is added after the words דִיבַּתְרָא Laws of Tefillin on Hol HaMo'ed 480 The custom in Israel is not to put on tefillin on Hol HaMo’ed. One whose custom is to put on tefillin on Hol HaMo’ed may, when visiting Israel, put on tefillin in private, but should not do so when praying with a congregation שו"ת אגרות משה או"ח ח"ד, קה: ה] [. A HALAKHIC GUIDE TO PRAYER FOR VISITORS TO ISRAEL GENERAL RULES PUBLIC VS. PRIVATE CONDUCT 474. For halakhic purposes, the definition of “visitor” is one who intends to re- turn to his place of origin within one year [7p .[משניב, Unmarried students may be considered visitors as long as they are supported by their parents [xp ש"ת אגרות משה או"ח ח"ב, [. 475 In general, a visitor to Israel should continue to follow his or her customs in private. In public, however, one should avoid conduct that deviates from local practice [7 או"ח, תסח: ד; משניב, שם: yw]. Hence, a visitor to Israel should generally pray in accordance with his non-Israeli customs. This rule is limited, however, to one’s private prayers. 476 If one is serving as Shaliah Tzibbur, one is required to pray in accordance with the local Israeli custom. This includes, for example, repeating the Amida ac- cording to Israeli practice: for example, saying 13134 wai טל ym from the 7th of Marheshvan onward. 477 Ifone is serving as Shaliah Tzibbur for Musaf on Yom Tov in a congregation of Israelis, in the silent Amida one should say the Korbanot as said outside Israel, but when repeating the Amida, say them following the Israeli practice יום טוב] (pny שערי ows) שני כהלכתו, א [ 478 In Israel (and in some congregations outside Israel), Tahanun is not said from Isru Hag of Simhat Torah until Rosh Hodesh Marheshvan, and from Isru Hag of Shavuot until the 12th of Sivan. 479 Even if one is not serving as Shaliah Tzibbur, a visitor praying with Israelis
