The first Torah scroll is lifted up (page 576) and Maftir is read from the second Torah scroll: And you shall bring an offering consumed by fire, a burnt-offering Sit to the LORD: two young bullocks, one ram, and seven yearling male none lambs; they shall be to you unblemished. And you shall perform their meal-offerings, fine flour mixed with oil, three-tenths of an ephah for each bull, two-tenths of an ephah for the ram; and one-tenth of an ephah for each of the seven lambs; and one goat for a sin-offering, to make atonement for you. All this aside from the morning burnt-offer ing, the daily offering; You shall offer all of these as food, on each of the seven days, a burnt-offering by fire of pleasing aroma to the LORD, along with the regular daily offering and its libation. On the seventh day there shall be a sacred assembly: you shall do no laborious work. HAFTARA FOR THE SEVENTH DAY OF PESAH And David spoke the words of this song to the LORD - on the day the 1 Sam. LORD saved him from the hand of all his enemies, and from the hand —_e of Saul. And he said: LORD, my Rock, my Fortress - and my Deliverer; my God, my Rock ~ I shelter in Him; my Shield and the Strength for my salvation; my Keep and my Refuge, my Savior; You save me from violence. Praised One! I call to the LORD, and from my enemies I am saved — for breaking-waves of death were all around me, torrents of evil assailed me; the ropes of the grave encircled me, traps of death were in front of me. In my anguish I called to the LORD - to my God, I called out — and He heard from His sanctuary, my voice and my pleas were in His ears. The superscription describes this as a song David sang “on the day the LORD saved him from the hand of all his enemies, and from the hand of Saul,” though it reads as if it was composed late in David's life. If so, then it would show that his deliverance from Saul stayed vivid in his memory until the end (Rashi, Radak). Abrabanel, however, believed that David wrote it in his youth, sang it at various points in his life on occasions of deliverance from danger, and eventually edited it for public use in the form we have as Psalm 18.
