SERVICE AT THE CONSECRATION OF A HOUSE ‘Ward A psalm of David. A song for the dedication of the House. Iwill?s.3 exalt You, Lor, for You have lifted me up, and not let my enemies rejoice over me. LoRD, my God, I cried to You for help and You healed me. Lor, You lifted my soul from the grave; You spared me from going down to the pit. Sing to the Lorn, you His devoted ones, and give thanks to His holy name. For His anger is for a moment, but His favor for a lifetime. At night there may be weeping, but in the morning there is joy. When I felt secure, I said, “I shall never be shaken.” Lorn, when You favored me, You made me stand firm as a mountain, but when You hid Your face, I was terrified. To You, Lorn, I called; I pleaded with my Lorn: “What gain would there be if I died and went down to the grave? Can dust thank You? Can it declare Your truth? Hear, Lor, and be gracious to me; Lorp, be my help.’ You have turned my sorrow into dancing. You have removed my sackcloth and clothed me with joy, so that my soul may sing to You and not be silent. Lorp my God, for ever will I thank You. Waa A Psalm of David. Lorp, who may dwell in Your tent? Who?s.1s may live on Your holy mountain? One who walks in integrity, does what is right, and speaks the truth from his heart; who has no malice on his tongue, does no wrong to his fellow, nor casts a slur on his neighbor; who scorns those who are vile, but honors those who fear the Lorn; who keeps his oath even when it hurts; who does not demand interest on his loans and never takes a bribe against the innocent. Where appropriate, the ceremony should begin with the fixing of mezuzot with the appropriate blessing, together with Sheheheyanu (pages 1053 and 1049). Psalm 30 is then recited because of its superscription, “A song for the dedi- cation of the House.” Psalm 15 speaks of the qualities required for “dwelling in the tent” of God — “tent” being understood by the sages (as in “How beautiful are your tents, Jacob”) as a metaphor for the Jewish home.
