the King’s Gate at that time, a fury engulfed Bigtan and Teresh, two of the king’s eunuchs, guards of the threshold, and they plotted to lay their hands 22. upon King Ahasuerus. But Mordekhai learned of the plot, and conveyed the knowledge to Queen Esther, and Esther told the king in Mordekhai’s name. 23 The matter was investigated and found to be true, and the two men were hung up dead on a post; and the story was written down before the king in the Scroll of the Chronicles. 31 Some time after this, King Ahasuerus ennobled Haman, son of Hamedata the Agagite, and promoted him to a seat above those of all his fellow ministers. 2 And all the king’s courtiers, serving at the King’s Gate, would kneel and bow before Haman, for so had the king instructed — but Mordekhai would neither 3 kneel nor bow down. And so the king’s courtiers would ask Mordekhai, as they served at the King’s Gate, “Why do you not obey the king’s command?” 4 When, day after day, they said this to him and he took no heed, they reported this to Haman, interested to see whether Mordekhai’s word would stand — for s he had explained that he was a Jew. After that Haman noticed that Mordekhai, indeed, did not kneel or bow down before him - and it filled Haman with 6 rage. It seemed beneath his contempt to lay his hands only on Mordekhai, for they had told him who Mordekhai’s people were. No: Haman’s wish was to wipe out all the Jews, all of Mordekhai’s people, across all of Ahasuerus’ empire. 7 And so in the first month, the month of Nisan, of the twelfth year of King Ahasuerus'’ reign, a pur — lots, that 18 - were drawn before Haman; day for day and month for month - and fell to the twelfth month: the month of Adar. 8 Haman then spoke to King Ahasuerus. “There is one people, scattered and dispersed across all the provinces of your realm, whose laws are different from those of all the other peoples, and who do not obey the king’s own laws = 9 and it really is not worth the king’s while to leave them so. If so it please the king, let it be decreed in writing to destroy them — and I shall weigh out ten thousand talents of silver, into the hands of the bureaucrats, to be delivered to the king’s treasury.” 10 The king took the ring from his finger, and gave it to Haman son of Hamedata, 11 the Agagite, enemy of the Jews. And the king said to Haman, “The money is yours, and so is the people; do with it as you will.” 12. The king’s scribes were called on the thirteenth day of the first month, and they wrote all that Haman commanded the king’s viceroys, the administra- tors of every single province and the ministers of every single people, to
