16 And Memukhan replied, before the king and the ministers: “It is not only the king that Vashti the queen has wronged, but all the ministers and all the 17 peoples in all King Ahasuerus’ provinces. For this tale of the queen will go out to all the women, casting their husbands into their contempt, as they say, ‘King Ahasuerus commanded Queen Vashti to be brought before him - but 18 she did not come!’ Yes, this very day, all the ministers’ wives of Persia and Medea who heard what the queen did will tell all the king’s ministers, and there will be no end to the contempt and the fury. 19 “If, then, it so please the king, let a royal declaration be sent out from him, and be written among the laws of Persia and Medea, that it never be revoked - that Vashti shall come no more before King Ahasuerus; and the king shall give her rule over to some other woman; to one who is better than she. 20 And the king’s decree shall be heeded and obeyed in all his empire, great as it is: that all women must honor their husbands, from the greatest to the lowliest.” 21 The suggestion pleased the king and the ministers, and the king did just as 22 Memukhan had said.
